Ep2: Thuy Duong - When "other people's children" drop out of school, self-motivation & career choice

Welcoming the return of Spark Yourself is Thuy Duong, a woman working and actively involved in various non-governmental and nonprofit organizations. Currently, Thuy Duong is working at the Saigon Children’s Charity and the NOI Community—a space for women, and those who identify as women, to nurture their voices and break boundaries. Perlamuse was fortunate to collaborate with NOI and Duong in the brand's first campaign in October 2021.

Before returning to Vietnam, after studying and working in Malaysia and the Netherlands with a major in "Global Management of Social Issues," Duong held several roles:

  • National Vice President of Marketing at AIESEC Malaysia
  • President of the Vietnamese Student Association in the Netherlands
  • Chair of the organizing committee for the Vietnam Youth Summit in Europe

In this episode, Thuy Duong will join founder Khanh Linh to talk about career choices, self-motivation, peer pressure, and the pressure of being the "golden child." We discussed:

  • Duong’s journey & why she chose to work in social causes
  • Peer pressure, and the pressure of being called the “golden child” or a “superwoman”
  • When the “golden child” decides to drop out of university to pursue what she believes in
  • Family opposition and support
  • Learning how to “learn” more about oneself through daily observation and journaling
  • How sometimes, pressure can be the motivation to keep moving forward
  • And many more unspoken thoughts and feelings...
